Jack Claitor Scholarship Award 2026-2027
This scholarship is given in honor and memory of Jack Claitor, a notable figure in the insurance industry and a big supporter of TSLA for many years. TSLA has been giving out this award since 1990.
Jack worked for Cravens Dargan in the Texas Panhandle. In Austin, he served as a Deputy Commissioner with TDI before starting Specialty Insurance Managers in 1976. Shortly thereafter he formed Commander International, an Underwriting Manager for the Berkley Companies. Jack was instrumental in assisting TSLA leadership in forming the Stamping Office in a time of regulatory crisis and retired after serving as its first General Manager.
The Jack Claitor Scholarship is awarded each year to a TSLA member who meets the following criteria: 1) First Time Attendee at the previous Annual Meeting; and 2) Employed by a TSLA Voting or Affiliate member firm. The winner is selected by the Executive Committee. The scholarship winner is awarded a free registration to the Mid-Year Meeting, including a registration for a spouse/partner. They will also receive three (3) room nights at the hotel, a plaque and a $250 honorarium. The award must be used in the year it was awarded.
TSLA would not be successful without the volunteerism and leadership of members like Jack Claitor. Our hope is that this scholarship opportunity will provide the recipient with a great opportunity to learn more about our association and how to get involved. Many past recipients of this award have continued into leadership positions with TSLA.
